Progress today…the restoration continues. Feb 23, 2009

February 23, 2009

Today I managed to remove what was still on the unibody. The roll bar, gas, clutch, and brake pedals are now off. I also removed the rear axle assembly and the various nuts and bolts that were still in the body. I removed the lower a-arms on the front, the exhaust system and the emergency brake cable.

I plan to completely replace the brake lines/cables, fuel lines, and as many rubber parts as I can find replacements for.

The next step is to build a contraption that I can mount the body to (front and rear) so that I can turn the whole unibody frame like a rotisserie and have access to all sides. The idea is to make it as easy as possible for sandblasting and painting. I plan to sandblast all the old paint/etc off before I weld patches back into the holes I cut in the floor. I also need to build a temporary room for sandblasting so I don’t wind up with those little glass beads/silica sand all over the shop.

I’ll post more pictures up tomorrow.

The beginning of a saab story.
